Stichting Ga4Ghana heeft als hoofddoel het stimuleren van de ontwikkeling van het educatieve systeem en het pedagogisch niveau in specifieke regio's in Ghana. Dit doen wij onder andere door het faciliteren van stages voor Nederlandse leraren in opleiding op lokale (basis)scholen in Ghana of door het uitzenden van vrijwilligers met kwaliteiten die aan het doel bijdragen. Zo brengen wij een continu proces van kennisuitwisseling tussen Nederlandse en Ghanese docenten tot stand.

De projecten en stageplaatsen worden gerealiseerd dankzij de schenking van donateurs en geld dat tijdens fonsenwervingsevenementen wordt opgehaald. Het opgehaale geld wordt ingezet om samen met de lokale scholen en bevolking, met hulp van onze (Nederlandse) vrijwilligers en stagiaires die dan ter plaatsen zijn, projecten te initiëren en/of uit te voeren.

Waar werken wij?
In het oosten van Ghana in de Volta Regio ligt het plaatsje Wli, wat omringd wordt door schilderachtige bergen en beroemd is om zijn waterval. Naast dit prachtige natuurreservaat is de lokale bevolking dagelijks hard bezig om in hun eigen primaire levensbehoeften te kunnen voorzien. De inwoners van dit grensgebied hebben echter weinig mogelijkheden tot ontwikkeling, door de afgelegen locatie en de beperkte educatieve mogelijkheden. Stichting Ga4Ghana wil in samenwerking met de aanwezige drie scholen het educatief niveau omhoog brengen, om zo de kinderen in Wli en hun ouders een mogelijkheid op een betere toekomst te bieden.

De Scholen
Op dit moment bestaat het onderwijssysteem in Wli uit 2 basisscholen en 1 middelbare school (Junior Secondary School, klas 1 t/m 3). Er is dus voldoende onderwijsaanbod, maar helaas volgt maar 75% van de kinderen het verplichte en gratis basisonderwijs. De oorzaken voor dit verzuim, zijn:
*Het merendeel van de bevolking leeft net op of onder de armoedegrens,  waardoor de kinderen thuis moeten helpen om rond te komen
*Ouders hebben niet voldoende financiële middelen om hun kinderen naar  school te sturen, want ondanks dat het onderwijs gratis is, moeten de ouders de kinderen zelf voorzien van een uniform, schriften en pennen/potloden.
Wanneer deze kinderen op volwassen leeftijd zijn hebben zij geen onderwijs genoten, dit heeft als gevolg dat ze nooit uit het straatje van armoede geraken.

De huidige scholen zijn overheidsscholen. Dit houdt in dat de overheid de scholen voorziet van schoolboeken, docenten, stagiaires en hun salarissen. Hiernaast moeten de scholen zelf voor alle andere materialen zorgen, zoals klaslokalen, stoelen, tafels, lesmaterialen en elektriciteit, maar doordat de scholen hiervoor niet genoeg financiële middelen hebben, wilt stichting Ga4Ghana bijspringen.

The aim of the Ga4Ghana Foundation is to stimulate the development of the educational system and the pedagogical level in specific regions in Ghana. We do this by facilitating training periods for Dutch teachers in training at local (primary) schools in Ghana or by sending volunteers with qualities which contribute to our aims. As a result, we achieve an ongoing process of knowledge exchange between Dutch and Ghanese professionals.

The projects and internship programs are realized thanks to the donation by donors and money that is collected during charity events. The raised money is used to initiate and/or implement projects with the local population and their schools, with help of our (Dutch) volunteers and trainees who are at the location to assist.

Where do we work?
In the east of Ghana in the Volta Region there is a little town called Wli, surrounded by picturesque mountains and a famous water fall. In spite of this beautiful nature reserve, the local population is busy every day involved with their own primary needs. The inhabitants of this border town have few possibilities for development, due to the outback location and the restricted educational possibilities that are found in this area. The Ga4Ghana Foundation wants to raise the educational levels of the three schools in this town in order to offer a possibility of a better future for the children off Wli and their parents.

The schools
At this moment the education system in Wli exists of 2 primary schools and 1 high school (Junior Secondary school, class 1 till 3). There are sufficient teaching opportunities, but unfortunately only 75% of the children follow the obligatory and free primary education.
The causes for this student absence are:
*The majority of the population lives at or under the poverty line. As a result many children need to help out at home.
*Parents do not have sufficient financial resources to send their children to school, because in spite of the free education parents must provide their children with a uniform, books and writing utensils.
When these children become adults they did not enjoy the education that is necessary to get them out of the poverty circle.

All the current schools are governmental schools. This means that the government provides the schools with a building, school books, teachers, teacher trainees and their salaries. The schools themselves must take care off all the other materials, such as classroom maintenance or adding extra rooms when necessary, tables, materials and electricity. Because the schools do not have enough financial resources for this, the Ga4Ghana Foundation wants to support them.
