Stichting Ga4Ghana is een initiatief van de zussen Laureen en Maaike Lohman. In 2003 heeft Laureen na haar middelbare school, vrijwilligerswerk gedaan in het weeshuis Friends for Orphan Education Society in het dorpje Klikor-Agbozume in Ghana. Om onze verbondenheid met Ghana te kunnen voortzetten hebben we besloten een eigen stichting op te richten om zo op een professionele manier ontwikkelingsprojecten op te zetten en uit te voeren. Het bestuur bestaat dan ook uit personen die elk hun deskundigheid en enthousiasme aanwenden voor de doelstelling van de stichting. Het bestuur bestaat uit de volgende personen:

 

Voorzitter Laureen Lohman volgt haar master-opleiding in de psychologie op de Universiteit te Leiden. Binnen Stichting Ga4Ghana is Laureen verantwoordelijk voor het handhaven van de centrale missie en het coördineren van de dagelijkse gang van zaken.

 

Eind 2007 ben ik voor de 4e keer afgereisd naar “mijn” Ghana. Het is zo gaaf om mee te zien hoe het land en de mensen zich iedere keer verder ontwikkelen. Bij veel dingen denk je “hé dat was er vorig jaar nog niet!” Het is ook niet voor niets een ontwikkelingsland! Ghana ontwikkelt zich enorm goed. Zo is op veel plaatsen elektriciteit aangelegd, hebben meer mensen toegang tot internet en televisie en is vooral het onderwijs enorm verbeterd. Dat wij door onze inzet hier een klein beetje aan bijdragen geeft me een trots gevoel!

Penningmeester Guus van 't Pad Bosch is afgestudeerd aan de opleiding voor International Business & Management en werkt momenteel als international account manager Asia bij Bugaboo International. Samen met zijn vriendin Suzanne wilden ze graag ontwikkelingswerk doen in Afrika en via via kwamen zij bij de stichting Ga4Ghana terecht. Uiteindelijk zijn ze in juli en augustus 2009 voor 8 weken voor ons hier aan het werk gegaan. Neem een kijkje bij de foto's om te zien wat hij en Suus allemaal hebben bereikt en gedaan in deze periode.

 

Om toch betrokken te blijven is hij sinds januari 2010 penningmeester van de stichting Ga4Ghana. "Het voelt goed om bij de stichting betrokken te blijven en zo veel goede dingen te doen voor mensen die het veel minder hebben dan wij. Ondanks de afstand kunnen wij als stichting nog veel doen, zoals het uitzenden van nieuwe vrijwilligers en stagiaires om op die manier bijvoorbeeld het niveau van educatie naar een hoger plan te tillen. Gelukkig worden de handen uit de mouwen gestoken en werken we direct samen met een andere organisatie om de bevolking in Wli te ondersteunen."

 

 

Secretaris 

Martijn vd Zijden geeft na diverse eerdere werkervaringen in de consultancy, makelaardij & vermogensbeheer adviezen m.b.t. Fine Arts. Tot mijn taken voor de stichting behoren; agenda's opmaken, notuleren en verdere inzet daar waar gewenst is.

 

''Na alle enthousiaste berichten en enige bestudering van de Stichting Ga4Ghana heb ik besloten mij in te zetten als secretaris voor de stichting. Het lijkt mij leuk om nieuwe mensen te ontmoeten en nieuwe terreinen die tot voor kort mij onbekend waren en samen te werken met de bijzondere reeds aanwezige bestuursleden''

 

 

Bestuurslid Maaike Lohman is docente Lichamelijke Opvoeding en werkzaam op (internationale) scholen in Nederland, Mongolië en Nieuw Zeeland. Zij is verantwoordelijk voor de updates van de website.

 

"In 2008 heb ik zelf voor de stichting en voor mijn laatste stage 4 maanden in Ghana doorgebracht. Doordat ik intensief met de scholen in Wli en Sogakope heb samengewerkt heb ik nogmaals kunnen ervaren hoe bereidwillig iedereen is om zo veel mogelijk van jou te leren en hiernaast heb ik ook ontzettend veel van hen en deze ervaring geleerd. Ghana en haar inwoners is echt iets waarvan je gaat houden"


Bestuurslid Margreet Cornelisse is ook docente Lichamelijke Opvoeding. Met Maaike deelt zij de verantwoordelijkheid en kennis over de stageprojecten voor vrijwilligers en studenten van onder andere de PABO en de ALO (Academie Lichamelijke Opvoeding).

 

"De eerste 2 maanden van 2008 heb ik mijn eindstage in Ghana gelopen en dit was absoluut een toptijd. De bevolking is geweldig door hun openheid en enthousiasme en ze zijn erg sociaal. Tijdens de intensieve samenwerking met de scholen heb ik gemerkt hoe graag de docenten willen leren van ons en hiermee hun eigen onderwijs willen verbeteren, wat mij als Obruni (blanke) een hoop energie gaf en waar ook ik heel veel van heb geleerd. Ghana is echt een geweldig land en er is niets mooiers om samen met de bevolking te streven naar kwalitatief beter onderwijs!"

 

Bestuurslid Suzanne Geerts is studente Bewegingswetenschappen. Van 3 juli 2009 tot 25 augustus 2009 is zij samen met haar vriend Guus in Ghana geweest om in het dorpje Wli vrijwilligerswerk te doen. Sinds januari 2010 is zij onderdeel van het bestuur.

 

"In de zomer van 2009 heb ik 8 weken lang met mijn vriend Guus vrijwilligerswerk gedaan in Wli, Ghana. We hebben ontzettend veel kunnen doen voor de mensen in Wli maar we hebben ook veel van ze kunnen leren. Toen we weer in Nederland waren bleek dat ik Ghana niet zomaar achter mij kon laten. Daarom ben ik ook erg blij dat ik vanuit Nederland, toch wat voor de mensen in Wli kan betekenen. Ik hoop dat ik via stichting Ga4Ghana toch betrokken kan blijven met de mensen in Wli en dat ik ze mijn steun en inzet kan geven."

 

                                       

 

Who we are

 

The Ga4Ghana Foundation was founded by the twin sisters Laureen and Maaike Lohman in the Netherlands. In 2003, right after she finished high school, Laureen volunteered for an orphanage of Friends for Orphan Education Society in a little town called Klikor in Ghana, Africa,

In order to give prolonged meaning to the connection Carien had developed with Ghana during her stay, they decided to establish a foundation through which they would be able to create and execute developmental projects in a professional manner. Three other volunteers were recruited in order to realize the ambitions and goals of the foundation. The Board therefore consists of five independent individuals that are able to combine their different fields of expertise in contribution to the goals of the foundation.

In the last few years Ga4Ghana has developed very strong ties with the community of the village Wli in the Volta-region of Ghana.

The foundation focuses its main efforts on contributing to the developments in the country that lead to meeting the Millennium Goals. Education as a basic necessity for strong development is our focus.

Our board exists of the following people:

 

President Laureen Lohman is working on her Masters in psychology at the University in Leiden. Within the Ga4Ghana Foundation Laureen is responsible for the maintenance of the central mission and coordinating the daily order of business.

 

"In the end of 2007 I returned for the fourth time to ´my´ Ghana. It is very nice to see how the country and people keep developing. Many times you think ´hey that wasn´t here the previous time!´ It is called a development country for a reason! Ghana is developing very well, electricity is rapidly becoming more available at many places, more people have access to Internet and television and especially the education level has improved enormously. That by our commitment we contribute a little to this, gives me a proud feeling!"

 

Treasurer Guus van ´t Pad Bosch is a graduate from the University for

International Business and Management and works at the moment as an international account manager Asia with Bugaboo International. Together with his girlfriend Suzanne he wanted to do development work in Africa and that is why he found the Ga4Ghana foundation. Eventually they worked for 8 weeks in June and July 2009 for the foundation. Feel free to take a look at the pictures to see what Guus and Suus accomplished in those weeks.

 

 

To stay involved Guus is the treasurer of the Ga4Ghana foundation since January 2010. ´It feels good to stay involved with the foundation and be able to do so many good things for the people who are less fortunate than us. Despite the distance, there is still a lot that we can do as a foundation.  An example is sending of volunteers and interns, to maintain and improve the level of education in Ghana. Luckily people work hard and we cooperate with local organizations to support the people of Wli.´

 

 

Secretary Martijn vd Zijden has been working in the consultancy, real estate & asset management markets. At the moment he is an adviser in the Fine Arts. His responsibilities in the foundation include: making the agenda, taking minutes and any further assistance where required.

 

'After hearing many enthusiastic reports and studying the Ga4Ghana foundation I have decided to step up as the secretary for the foundation. I am looking forward to meeting new people and work in unfamiliar fields, and of course to work together with the extraordinary people of which the board consists off.'

 

 

Board member Maaike Lohman is an international physical education teacher, graduated in Amsterdam in 2008. She teaches at national and international schools in the Netherlands, Mongolia and New Zealand.

 

"In 2008, I spent 4 months in Ghana for the foundation and for my own last training period. Living intensively in Wli and Sogakope at this time and cooperating with the schools I once again experienced how willing everyone is to learn as much as possible from you. And I must admit I also learned a lot from them and this experience. Ghana and its inhabitants are really something that you will fall in love with."

 

 

Board member Margreet Cornelisse is also physical education docent. With Maaike, she shares the responsibilities concerning the trainee projects for volunteers and students of the PABO (teachers training college), the ALO (academy for physical education) and other interested people.

 

"The first 2 months of 2008 I spend my final training period in Ghana and this was absolutely a top time. The population is fantastic in their openness and enthusiasm and they are very social. During the intensive cooperation with the schools I have seen how eagerly the teachers wanted to learn from us and improve their own teaching, what gave me as Obruni (white person) a lot off energy and I learned a lot of them too. Ghana is really a fantastic country and there is nothing greater to strive with the population for qualitatively improved education!"

 

Board member Suzanne Geerts is studying Movement science. From July 3^rd 2009 till August 25^th 2009 she went to Ghana, together with her boyfriend Guus. Here they did voluntary work in the village Wli. Since January 2010 she is part of the board.

 

´In the summer of 2009 I did 8 weeks of voluntary work in Ghana, together with my boyfriend Guus. We were able to do so much for the people in Wli, but we also learned a lot from them. When we were back in Holland, we found out that we could not just leave Ghana behind. That is why I am very happy that I can help the people in Wli, even though I am in the Netherlands. I hope that I can keep on being involved with the inhabitants in Wli via the Ga4Ghana foundation, and maintain my support to them.´
